Treasure Island, Laguna Beach

Updated: Apr 2, 2022

I decided to make of Laguna Beach the place to begin diving into solo travel. It seemed like the ideal location because of a couple of reasons but the main was definitely distance from home.

Since it was going to be my first ever little solo adventure, staying close to home was important. 1) It guaranteed peace of mind in case anything went wrong, 2) it kept things cost efficient, and 3) also ensured that I would be at the location for a longer amount of time (traffic in Southern California is never something to disregard).

Enough about that however, let's get into the actual outing...

California has a long coast line, but Malibu alone has a plethora of pockets of adventure to dip into and I will definitely be returning. It has 1000 Steps Beach, (with tide pools and a sea cave), Table Rock Beach, Aliso Beach, Treasure Island Beach (and Treasure Island Park), Victoria Beach (with the pirate tower) Woods Cove (right next to arch cove) halfway rock is the halfway point between there and and Cheneys point, Heisler Park, Shaws Cove, and then Crescent Bay Point park.

I chose Treasure Island Beach because, I mean, the name alone sold me on it. How could I have lived in southern California for 30 years and have never even realized Treasure Island beach was only an hour away?

I mean, look at this beautiful Treasure of a paradise..

It took an hour and 4 minutes to get there, a quarter tank round trip and parking was right there basically on the beach. It was a parking structure, there aren't many spots and you do have to pay for parking but it is very affordable.

Access to the beach is completely safe for all, there was a wheelchair access point as well, but I took the steps. When you get down to the sand the waves that roll in are slow and steady. You can walk with ease, or, if you are like me, after sitting and contemplating the beauty for a while, your sense of exploring takes over. You will need shoes for this however, the rocks can be hard on the feet.

Stepping though this arc was like a rite of passage into the new year. Look at the colors on the rocks, the water, the sky...

I stood in awe at the sight and yet, the sound of the crashing waves and ocean breeze lured me to go closer to the edge.

To watch the final minutes of sunset, you can perch yourself up on a rock, sit and watch in peace. There really is something about the beautiful California sunset.
